How the Design Process Works
Every garden starts with listening.
Designing a garden is a collaborative process. My role is to understand how you want to use your outdoor space and turn those ideas into a practical, beautiful garden that's tailored to your home and lifestyle.
From our first conversation through to the finished design, each stage builds on the last, giving you the confidence to move forward with your project.
1. Initial Consultation
Every project begins with a visit to your garden.
We'll walk around the space together, discuss how you currently use it, what you'd like to change and how you want the garden to feel in years to come. We'll also talk about your budget, maintenance preferences and any ideas you've already collected.
This is as much about listening as it is measuring.
2. Site Survey
Accurate information is the foundation of every successful design.
During the survey I'll record measurements, levels where required, existing features, services, access points and photographs of the garden. I'll also assess sunlight, shade, soil conditions and views into and out of the garden.
Understanding the site properly helps avoid costly mistakes later.
3. Concept Design
Once I understand both the garden and your brief, I'll begin developing ideas.
This stage explores the overall layout, circulation, materials and atmosphere of the garden before focusing on individual plants or finer details.
You'll receive concept visuals and a mood board to help communicate the design direction.
